Rotring Black Steel Fine nib+6
Appearance & construction:
2/26/16: Very good writer. No hardstart. No skipping. No scratchiness. Little feedback. F wet line. Very slim. Looks are average. Nothing special. But I like the simplicity. The grip looks odd but feels fine. Undulations in the grip design probably necessary to keep fingers from slipping since this pen is very thin.
2/27/16: After a couple days of use, this German-made pen has quickly risen to the top tier in my collection. The model is “Esprit,” and it’s made of anodized aluminum. It is 5 1/2″ capped, 5″ uncapped, and 6 3/4″ posted. The cap diameter is 3/8″ (source). It writes very comfortably despite the thinness. It has a very solid feel, and the cap clicks close very securely. It’s long enough for me to use unposted. The ink flow is consistent, and the lines are fine with just enough wetness. This nib is smooth, but with just enough feedback to suit me. I upgraded my ratings for appearance and writing. The 4.5 stars for excellent is the highest I’ll be awarding any pen in my collection. The 5 stars will be held in reserve for the perfect pen, which I have yet to find.
